Thank You for All Your Support (Or At Least Reading)

Thank you for all your support - those who have supported me with compliments, flattery and encouragement - those who have followed me in admiration or to mock me (at least to mock me you read me a bit and viewed my posts and gossiped about me).
However I am now fueled by challanges and triumphs everyday that revolve around my real job as director of business development which I am thankful and grateful for = and truly love = and truly love what it's all about.
I am a busy man. My grandmother Rose (both were Roses) always said "the devil makes work for idle hands."
Therefore I will no longer be posting or writing in emails to media outlets.
The mystrawhat.com project and The New Everyday Media projects have been fun and I think there was a lot of good there (even if misunderstood by some).
I may post on FaceBook here and there but that will be more or less to say "hello" to friends.
Thanks again.
Sincerely, John

Thank you for such a wonderful article.

On our way home to Pittsburgh Saturday I stopped at a store to pee and saw Sen Byrd w/ his adorable doggie on the front page and I had to buy your paper.

I was in Georgetown stayinyg at the Ritz Carlton = w/ a $200.00 strawhat, $450.0 Hugo Boss shades, vintage torn and frayed Levis (priceless) and tee shirts (one w/ Chief Seattle and his true and beautiful quote "we belong to the earth = earth does not belong to us") with a little big white fluffy Lhasa Apso around the Ritz Carlton Georgetwon. We must have been quite a site for the everyday person there ...

OK, i envy life as like a rock star lives = of course i am not a rock star but i do try and play guitar everyday and write poetry and treat my dog like a child = oh yeah, my father is a big attorney = well respected and loved = Jimmy Carter was gonna stay at our house when he was president of the USA but my father arranged for him to stay at a client's instead = Mr. Abbott in Fox Chappel.

The two of us walking along the riverfront park and looping back to Potomac Ave passed the PaperMill TownHouses (sigh = love those) and me carrying up the stairs and over the historic canal = Having espresso (per me) and bottled water for Parker Bean and just relaxing like we do in front of the Starbucks in the village we live in outside of Pittsburgh. Yeah, a Peroni, a diavolo pizza and bottled water for Parker Bean at il Canale outside in the shade = in the lobby at the Ritz Parker Bean under his momma's feet while she has a Hendrix Gin dry martini w/ cucumbers.

As soon as I saw that front page pic of Sen Byrd w/ his adorable doggie named "Trouble" (he calls "Baby") on the front page and I had to buy your paper.

TJ, I heard you say earlier that the Gulf people need a break --- I agree. Now sure some people may want to "rub it in" and figure a hurricane would certainly "rub it in the face" of everybody. However the everyday people of the Gulf need a break. Best of the Roses, In spirit, Your friend, John

Great job, TJ... Thank you for all your hard work in the fresh morning sun _ (hope for when the roses bloom again is alive) ... Maybe even though sometimes it doesn't seem quite right ... We know ...

Gee your competition at FNC hasn't had to sweat in their stiff suits (I bet they use extra starch). But I love them just the same (hopefully they love me too - "love your neighbor to it hurts" Jim) ...

Anna David: Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover

This picture of Anna David was added to one of the FNC Red Eye Acitivity Pit groups overnight ... Reminding me of 1). how cool & hot Anna David is and is in person and 2). a nice little lessons learned anecdote she shared w/ me while interviewing her ... The story goes during the publication and publicity tours for her book Party Girl at a swanky Miami club in SouthBeach all kinds of people were offering her drinks and were like "Party Girl, we love you - lets party" = which turned out to be a bit of a bummer because OBVIOUSLY they did not read her book and furthermore did not do any homework on her and just like a cliche "judged a book by its cover" ... Which real quick because I gotta go!... reminds me of when I was an idealistic teen and some very conservative suit (which I kinda dressed like myself) saw a guy on a motorcycle and was like "look at that biker - how disguisting - the long hair, beard and ripped jeans" ... and I was like "how do you know? He could be a great guy. Why judge a book by its cover. Look at Jesus." ...

While I was listening to Wake of the Flood and its Here Come Sunshine driving home from Starbucks w/ the NY Times for a Saturday the 12th day of June 2010 and it hit me that the sun is out in Arkansas where that *Big River "cried cried cried" --- And even in the wake of the flood for Katrina there was that "Here Comes Sunshine" feeling from "Wake of the Flood" ...

However, this "new gulf war" ... This is far worse than Katrina ..This is far worse ... This spewing of oil like hatred based by the sword and man-made interpretations to kill infidels ...
Oil. "Don't shit where you eat, my friends" -(as I was saying like pretty much as soon I was allowed to receive info about this devestating blow that killed 11 men)- as just an everyday grateful and thankful citizen of a FREE U.S.A. --- I knew it was an economical, ecological and ethical catastrophe more than disaster. (Nevertheless I didn't imagine such a "controlled" response making things a trillion times worse) ... But everyday I saw that adding and, well, you know some people can just "sense" things ... I guess "predictions" are more for mathematicians ...

Wake of a flood from Mother Earth ... Yeah, here come sunshine ... Creation and destruction womb like life and death rebirth ... Wake of a Mother Nature flood gives back a thousand fold what it takes if you're awake enough to realize ...

An oil "man made" flood = disaster.

It takes.

It doesn't give.

And oil industry won't give enough and will have the will to figure out what more it can take from us - consumers - tax payers.

So why not create something new for people of the gulf who deserve it --- those 30 thousand oil rigs in the gulf can easily be converted into platforms for wind energy ...
Gee, that will also create new jobs (a ton) and new money into our economy and the world economy --- negating big oil and its relentless creation of a giant relentless culture dependent upon the delusional need for oil.

I was lucky enough to be part of the soaring nineties and not only its refreshing cultural revolution but also an amazingly refreshing economic boom ... The Internet model. Providing platforms to deliver information and goods and services and content to people around the world from your basement.

An unbelievable sensation ... A whole new industry and world and limitless opportunity and break from the old dinosaur ways of big business --- "Big Blue" --- big blue chips.

And like a cranky old man dictator(s) all of a sudden the Internet model wasn't a real model and all of the hundreds of millions of dollars being exchanged over ideas and contracts written on napkins was once again redirected to more "concrete" business models like "Housing" and "Banking" and lending and that whole cycle --- like a delusional addiction to oil.

So CNN, why do you think the Internet bubble busted?

Old man Crow was the nastiest man when it came to throwing money down
Old man Crow was the happiest man when it came to other men buying rounds
Up above the river in those fruitful fertile hills he worked the earth at the Penna Clay Co
Baking those bricks for cities needing built up - those roads to homes built for show
Oh, Old Man Crow w/ the muddy oil in his veins and eyes of coal many women tried to mine died rockin' on the front porch of his cabin many said he lived mighty fine
Old Man Crow - feel him in your soul when you're hiking those back woods where the water falls and life begins

Everybody just wants to know that they're alright

It's okay to look at the stars
And leave a sad life
The home you know is just
A mile or two away
You can throw a stone
It's the one w/ the light on

Everybody just wants to know that they're alright

It's okay to be happy
But actually do you deserve it
Are you alright
Should you stay away -caught
Throwing stones at glass houses
Trying to turn out the light

Everybody just wants to know that they're alright

How many degrees does it take for you to be able tell me I'm alright
You're alright w/ me -just smile

My Top 5 Civic Arena/Mellon Arena Memories in Pittsburgh: The Pens Last Regular Series Game at the Civic Arena/Mellon Arena

1).
Watching the reunion tour of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin March 25, 1995 with Pittsburgh's own Rusted Root (winning the coveted opening slot for several dates) from the Mario Lemieux and a family friend's box I gratefully scored --- watching on with my now wife (who I had gone on a handful of dates at the time) and some friends of ours --- Hearing Robert Plant tell us that he's been on tour with a lot of bands in his time and being on tour with Rusted Root for this time made him feel compelled to tell us just how lucky Pittsburgh is to have them.

2).
All the wonderful moments watching Mario Lemieux on the ice including his 600th goal and an amazing game where the Pens where down by two goals with a little more than one minute left on the clock and Luc Robitaille and Mario tied the game and won in overtime (my girl and friend "Fat Tuesday" wanted to leave but I convinced them to stay because I had a feeling).

3).
Sydney Crosby

4).
Attending the first Fresh Fest featuring RUN DMC, Whodini, Kurtis Blow and the Fat Boys in 1984 as one of the only 14 year old white boys in or out of the Civic Arena

5).
As an eleven and twelve year old sitting at the glass (pounding on the glass) of the Civic Arena wathcing Paul Baxter, Pat Price, Randy Carlyle, Mike Bullard, George Ferguson and Pierre LaRouche - and then "sneaking" down stairs and hanging out outside the locker room after the game with a good friend of the family (close to the Pittsburgh Penguins) looking on ... (and in the summers being taught by some of these guys at the Ken Schinkle School of Hockey - where Pat Price gave me a lot of one-on-one time I'll never forget).

Christmas Barrette

Christmas barrette on a pretty fine girl
I was thinking about something I'd probably regret
Everyday weaving the holiday season tapestry
Living the scene we were lit up like a Christmas Tree
Everybody gathering to be seen to see the music at the next show
No matter where you came from or where tomorrow grows
We cross many roads and rivers - going under bended bare trees -
There's snow in the December air not just in the eastern seaboard
But where there's magic you can feel it in the air from the backstage
Musicians to the guys at the door - carrying equipment together -
Drinking a ton of free beer on the house like the night before -
Did you have a chance to see him in the living area upstairs at a
Naked and bruised piano he could easily handle out of tune -
What a star on the Christmas Tree - it looks like him, you & me
Just like the day before New Year's Eve in Chicago along the shore
Looking at the city --- Yeah, all have traveled to get here for the show
Through the magic in the air down hills and roads and under a canopy of
Bare winter trees -passed corners and open fields and tall buildings where
There's always writing on the wall - graffiti and all - we make the magic a
Few people share and see in a girl at a show with a Christmas barrette in her hair

one pay check away

prelude: what kind of music sells most in difficult economic times? i bet it was country maybe now rap music now - well they're both angry and like to bitch and really don't celebrate life like they used to when they recorded on front porches ---- (i keep myself busy so i have to find time to sit on the front or back porch and just pick away) --- anywway, here's an idea i had while driving through Sewickley Heights wondering what kinda song would sell today if i was just honest and true

one pay check away
i wish i were in Kentucky bluegrass
chasing my little momma instead
of working my weary bones on this shift
but hey i'm grateful to be a working man
so you won't hear me bitch the blues again

one pay check away
and China will own our asses
that's what i'm told everyday
in the new everyday media
where a vote for Palin likely means
you got that ring around your back
pocket of your Levis - yeah, some
of them in this world so watch yourself

one pay check away
i watch my dreams fade away
one by one like my hair turning gray
one by one i think it all over - "it's
on the rocks today -yeah, Maker's"
i drink it down like the money i make

one pay check away
i'll own my new Ford F150
and it's another day i can kick ass
i'm tired of you putting me down
so i won't let my name down
not anymore i am one paycheck away
from a new tomorrow where i don't borrow

one paycheck away
from the the USA staying a super power
with more baseball diamonds and books
that don't deny there are people who die
and there are people who plan and do kill
that's a fact and if i don't have to borrow
then i ain't bowing down or sayin' sorry
