The Power of Some Covers: These Covers Speak for the Week

WILLIE NELSON, THE PRETENDERS, JERRY LEE LEWIS Farm Aid 2008 [no label, 1CD]Live at the Comcast Center, Mansfield, Massachusetts, September 20, 2008. TV HD broadcast.
With ordinary Americans unhappy over the way Wall Street is currently asking for a massive bailout, one can easily add Farm Aid founder Willie Nelson to that list. Since Farm Aid began in 1985, Nelson and his group of friends, who include John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Dave Matthews, have been tirelessly working to raise money for family farmers in the United States. For more than 20 years, Farm Aid is all but ignored by the US government. But along come the banksters and the entire US government bends over backwards to save the rich.

In response to the proposed US$700 billion Wall Street bailout, Farm Aid has issued an open letter to Congress: “The proposed $700 billion bailout asks taxpayers to foot the bill without giving them the opportunity to share in any gains that might result… On the other hand, a $1 billion investment in family farm agriculture would enrich all of us, because we are all shareholders of the family farm. The return on investment in the family farm includes thriving local economies, nutritious food for better health, a safer and more secure food supply, a cleaner environment and more renewable energy.” Since 1985, Farm Aid has raised more than $30 million to help family farmers.

And so, Willie Nelson stoicly soldiers on, calling this year’s Farm Aid concert “the best ever.”

Recently, On Red Eye ...

...of course there are the lovely women of the new everyday media that are on TV each and everyday. However, leave it to the genius of Red Eye to share with the world "a taste of honey" and media savvy of women who also do everyday media but we (the viewers and consumers of spoonfed news on local channels) don't usually get to see everyday ...

It's outside of State College, people! Don't you know your geography for the most important state in this election?!

Careful = She Bites!

... But she can be tamed by shiny objects as seen here on Red Eye (the best show on cable news and maybe even on today's TV except for Bones)

We're on the Road to Nowhere

We're on a road to nowhere
Come on inside
Takin' that ride to nowhere
We'll take that ride

I'm feelin' okay this mornin'

And you know,

We're on the road to paradise

Here we go, here we go

Maybe you wonder where you are

I don't care

Here is where time is on our side

Take you there...take you there

We're on a road to nowhere

We're on a road to nowhere

We're on a road to nowhere

There's a city in my mind

Come along and take that ride

and it's all right, baby, it's all right

And it's very far away

But it's growing day by day

And it's all right, baby, it's all right

They can tell you what to do

But they'll make a fool of you

And it's all right, baby, it's all right

We're on a road to nowhere
