Happy Birthday To Me: New Hope

I was having a good sleep in my car
In the parking lot of the Showboat Casino Hotel
I said, "I remember you! You drive like a PTA mother."
You bought me draft beer, in a plastic cup.
I'm feeling thankful for the small things today.
I'm feeling thankful for the small things today.

Happy, happy birthday to me.
Happy birthday to me, and to you.
Happy, happy birthday to me.
Happy birthday to me, and to you.

I'm feeling thankful for the small things today.
I'm feeling thankful for the small things today.

I said, "I remember you! I crashed your wedding.
With some orange crepe paper and some Halloween candy."
Sometimes I wish I were catholic --- I don't know why.
I guess I'm happy to see your face in a time like this.

Happy, happy birthday to me.
Happy birthday to me, and to you.
Happy, happy birthday to me.
Happy birthday to me, and to you.

Happy birthday baby, to me.
Happy birthday, to me.
Happy birthday, to me.
Happy birthday, to me.

Pretty Girl

What a little gem. ..

And, yes, there are only 10 Songs on this album 12 Golden Country Greats = what a gem.

Since Elektra paid for Ween to record in Nashville with bonified studio players I wouldn't call it a parody album. .. I mean, Ween doesn't have a genre. .. so just like a NY Times article today in the Sunday edition Arts & Leisure section was making the cutting edge argument that today's pop doesn't really "pop" in terms of doing and, definitely not defining, anything new but it's a mix of the last few recent decades and different genres and styles from those 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. .. That's why bands like Ween and Rusted Root = who you will find at any current big music festival this summer and seemingly always on tour for the past 20 years (both from Pennsylvania and started around the same time) just keep on keeping on = they were never darlings of any one genre = and, in fact, frustrated the record executives who just wanted their one hit song from an album that clearly was branded as a formula to shift a certain number of units (yawn). .. So, there you have it this Sunday = Pretty Girl by Ween = ( i know this will make you smile and hum along). ..

Bandwagon

Nothing makes the raindrops
Sparkle like the sun
Quite like a band wagon
Once it's begun

Bandwagon,
It's right here in the song
Bandwagon,
Won't you sing along

Bandwagon,
It's not like I just made this up
Bandwagon,
Once it starts you can't get enough
(without it you'll never get along)

This ain't a one trick pony, it's gold
Ain't no politician - I'm just one of you
Better buy it too before it's all sold
Don't jump on it now - you're a fool

Bandwagon,
It's right here in the song
Bandwagon,
Won't you sing along

Bandwagon,
It's not like I just made this up
Bandwagon,
Once it starts you can't get enough
(without it you'll never get along)
.... .... ....

Nothing makes the raindrops
Sparkle like the sun
Quite like a band wagon
Once it's begun

Subject: Riveting Voice of Local Sports = a "Pomp" Story

I had arranged for a golf foursome at Chartiers Country Club one summer's day.

This golf foursome consisted of the president of Bayer Corporation (the German, Dr. Attila Molnar), Bob Pompeani - riveting voice of local sports, Mike Speranzo - Mr. Small's, Drowning Clowns, Pro-Am Skater, and me -your everyday guy.

Some, including myself, may have thought this was a motley crew. I was a little nervous about how this would go and if I could pull off a good time.

Next thing you know, a couple holes in, Bob Pompeani and Dr. Attila Molnar, the German -president of Bayer Corporation, are talking smack on each other. ..Speranzo wastes no time joining in and Bob and Speranzo form this allegiance against the German and the two of them start chest bumping like they're Pittsburgh Steelers after a great play --- which, eventually, in a show of good sportsmanship, they kindly included Dr. Attila Molnar (the German) in after he would make a good shot.

The four of us had a blast.

And, for Speranzo and me - and, I believe the German too, a very cool highlight was Bob Pompeani lending his riveting voice of local sports to provide commentary on our shots - play by play like.

It was an awesome day I'll never forget.

July 3rd Marks the 40th Anniversary The Doors' Jim Morrison Death

July 3rd Marks the 40th Anniversary The Doors' Jim Morrison Death, We Remember Him Now With Five of the Most Surreal Theories Surrounding His Passing

Jim-Morrison1.jpg

July 3rd marks the 40th anniversary of the Doors' legendary frontman Jim Morrison's death. Fans worldwide will celebrate his life and his massive contribution to music--just imagine how many bands now owe their sound to the Doors--with tribute shows, exhibits, and even ceremonies. The Rock and Roll Emporium in Huntington Beach marks this day with a special memorial event featuring an extensive exhibit of rare artifacts spanning Morrison's entire career as a poet, artist and musician.
"With 2011 being the 40th anniversary of the death of Jim Morrison, we wanted to host a memorial celebration of his music, life and legacy," said Andrew Kirby, managing partner of The Rock and Roll Emporium. "We've gathered artifacts from the very beginning of his career as a film student to hand-written poems including one of the first songs he wrote while living on a rooftop in Venice Beach, to a collection of more than 400 rare historic photographs. This is a great chance to own a piece of history from one of the most notable and iconic bands to come out of Southern California."

You'll find the Original Bail Bond sheet signed by "James Douglas Morrison" from his arrest on suspicion of indecent exposure during a concert at Dinner Key Auditorium in Miami's Coconut Grove section in 1969, a collection of rare photographs by Ron, Raffaelli, Henry Diltz and Joel Brodsky, rare concert posters, gold records, autographed items, original tribute artwork, and original poetry written in Jim Morrison's hand including the lyrics to the song "Moonlight Drive" from The Doors' second album "Strange Days" which was released in October 1967.

So much has been written and speculated upon surrounding Morrison's life and death. He was reportedly found dead in a Paris, France apartment he had sub-leased in 1971. His 'wife', Pamela Courson, was the first to discover the body in the bathroom, where he lay in the bathtub, naked and half-submerged. Following his passing, there was a series of bizarre and convoluted events, probable conspiracies, strange coincidences and surreal news reports stemming from the three-day media blackout after he died. Officially, his death was listed as "heart failure," but before heading to Paris, his doctor reported him to be in excellent health.

Now, on the 40th anniversary of his death, we look at the self-perpetuating mythos that has developed and enveloped the facts with five of the most surreal theories surrounding Morrison's passing.

5. Many believe that Morrison faked his own death and dropped off the grid with a new identity--and apparently Morrison himself had repeatedly planted the seeds which would lead to this sort of speculation. At the Fillmore in San Francisco in 1967, he apparently started suggesting that he should pull a "death stunt" to bring national press attention onto the band. Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek has said, "If there was one guy that would have been capable of staging his own death -- getting a phony death certificate and paying off some French doctor... And putting a hundred and fifty pound sack of sand into a coffin and splitting to some point on this planet -- Africa, who knows where -- it is Jim Morrison who would have been able to pull it off."

4. Morrison also told writers on more than one occasion that he could see himself "radically changing careers, reappearing as a suited and neck-tied businessman." Elektra Records' founder Jack Holzman's assistant Steve Harris even remembers Jim Morrison asking what might happen if he were to suddenly "die," how might it affect business, record sales, the press, and would people believe it?

3. J. Prochniky's Morrison biography, Break On Through, explores the occult rumors surrounding his death:
"... Another supernatural-based theory is that Morrison's body had been driven to great extremes by the spirit of the shaman he believed had entered his body as a child on that New Mexico highway. When this spirit or a demon its talents to influence the world, it abandoned Jim and left him a physically wasted and mentally exhausted man who felt betrayed with no desire to go on..."

2. Apparently anthropologist Allison Bailey Kennedy went as far as associating Morrison with Orphic mystery cults and their initiatory uses of various spider venoms, which release the "deuende in Gypsy tradition -- the dark soul that burn incandescently like a cicada, immolating itself in fiery passion."

1. The most surreal occult theory surrounding Morrison's death is revealed in No One Hear Gets Out Alive by Sugarman and Hopkins:
"... Other theories abounded in Jim's close circle of friends. One had him killed when someone plucked out his eyes with a knife ("to free his soul", as the story had it). Another had a spurned mistress killing him long distance from New York by Witchcraft..." Plucked out his eyeballs with a knife? How horrifying.

The Rock and Roll Emporium's memorial celebration starts on July 3rd with the unveiling of the "Moonlight Drive" lyrics and continues with a candle lighting at Surf City Nights Tuesday July 5th.

Ruby's lead Attny Melvin Belli did not follow through w/ my father's suggestion of "patriotic insanity" and is probably why Belli lost.  And, yes, until this day when asked my father still maintains that it was pure coincidence that Ruby was there with a gun and got that close to Oswald = no conspiracy. Robot Theater: Saucy Weiner + Nick Gillepsie of Reason on Weiner

Nick Gillespie of Reason recently wrote the following big Weiner scandal "points" on 6/10 Red Eye's Andy Levy tees-up and drives home nicely in the clip which I've included below -along w/ the hilarious Robot Theater: Saucy Weiner clip from Red Eye.

A lot of people say that there's lying (not a good thing) and then there's lying about sex (also not a good thing, but a more understandable thing). But then there's lying about cellphone porn and tweetpics by saying that the attacks on you may be the "point of Al Qaeda's sword," or some sort of super-terrorist cyberhack of a sitting member of Congress. Which is what Weiner says above (via CNS News). That's such an awful lie on every possible level that I think it should really remove any doubt about his fitness for office. It's one thing to do stupid things and cover them up with misstatements and obfuscations. That's wrong but understandable, at least within certain limits and when it doesn't directly impact his job. But to play the Al Qaeda card in an attempt to throw folks off the scent of an embarrassing (not even illegal!) misstep is really something else. For god's sake, it would be like, I don't know, the president of the United States bombing two Third World countries just to misdirect people's attention from grand jury testimony. Or something.

http://itsjustwordplay.blogspot.com

The official unofficial Red Eye intros blog.

I always find Greg Gutfeld's Red Eye intros so witty, clever, funny and on so many levels. But, when I first started watching, yes, it was kinda shocking = and then I was like, "how brilliant" ... he's not doing anything wrong and yet flirting with being inappropriate for not just TV, however, yet, today's hypersensitive political correct culture - with a lot of uptight people and people with thirst - looking for someone to crucify with public humiliation. .. (in promoting her new book Attny Lisa Bloom & professional TV legal analyst has suggested that because we consume so much tabloid media we become obsessed with this unreal standard reality of celebrity and perfectness that we then have self loathing to the point where we crave public humiliation of others --- like lambs led to slaughter for sacrificial appeasement). ... granted some of these blokes legitimately deserve it because they are narcissistic sociopathic "tools" --- but just because you have it good doesn't mean people should wish for your demise - even some wishing intent of seeing wrong for you - just so they can feel better about themselves. ...like satisfaction from a teen girl bullying fight.

The irony here with Gutfeld, Red Eye and the "wordplay" with brilliantly smoking RED HOT strong women on his show is with these real everyday events involving Congressmen Weiner, John Edwards and the Governator, Bret Favre, Tiger Woods --- and how these figures are using new media for romance (both to get it and hide it) and it oft bites them --- And, then there's Greg Gutfeld, just putting it all out there w/ these beautiful, strong women and its on Fox News Channel to boot!!! = Greg Gutfeld is a genius and Red Eye is always on the cutting edge = always refreshing.

I commend Greg Gutfeld and RedEye (and my own efforts. ... a couple media type people here & there are familiar with) for being ahead of his time and releavantly ironic with such wit and yet blatant nonchalance. .. it totally refelcts what's really going on within politics, politicians, men of riches & power and new media. ... Greg just gets away with it on international airwaves everyday. ..and in such a refreshing fashion = like a breath of fresh air in some D.C. Frat-house basement.

Welcome to Red Eye, it's like Countdown but without the cleansing mixture of vinegar and water.

INTROS:

Suzanne Sena, if beauty were an ace bandage she'd be all over my joint

Bill Schulz, he's my grotesque sidekick

Greg Proops, if jokes were milk he'd come in a carton. possibly a jug. maybe even a gallon. [fun fact: I meant "'if jokes were milk, he'd come in a carton' or maybe it'd be funnier if it were 'if jokes were milk, he'd come in a jug' or maybe you want to go with 'if jokes were milk, he'd come by the gallon.'" such is the risk in texting intros. then again, this could have been a deliberate choice.]

Jerry Casale, if genius were dentures I'd never take him out of my mouth.

Lis Wiehl, if legal expertise were a broken down car I'd service her on the side of the road.

To the Greg-alogue, it's got a sun roof.

Andy loves to tamper with the brakes on wheelchairs with his good friend Angela Lansbery. (Andy: Abery don't like cripples.)

RE-INTROS:

Suzanne Sena, if beauty were a horse it'd be important to get right back on her if you fell off.

Greg Proops, if jokes were scope I'd gargle with him nightly.

Jerry Casale, if genius were vodka he'd be inside me right now

Lis Wiehl, if legal brilliance were an oath I'd take her in a courtroom.

Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison (singing for the lonely) is the other famous Van Halen cover. I still like playing that. ..

+ speaking of documentaries have you ever watched the Stones CockSucker Blues?

Kurt Cobain was criticized for doing covers not exactly like the bands he was covering. ..Kurt said, "yeah, they are my interpretations of songs and thus my rendition of that song." .. I like that. ..

I agree w/ you all --- I like when bands do renditions of other tunes. Like Rusted Root covering Evil Ways per the request of Jodie Foster while they were in England w/ Robert Plant and Jimmy Page -as Jodie Foster wanted and did use it for Home for the Holidays. ..and Rusted Root's rendition of You Can't Always Get What You Want featuring members of Hot Tuna is pretty cool too. ..

Gram Parsons does some heart felt renditions of country and pop artists.

And speaking of Keith, yeah, that book of his Life is a really good read.

Xtina looks hot on the Perez Hilton site from this weekend --- on one of my stays at Chateau Marmont I ended-up in the VIP section http://www.mystrawhat.com/MyStrawHatWeb/StrawHatPics/RR/LikeAngelsWatchingOver=ChateauMarmont-07007.jpg of a club called Hyde on the SunsetStrip and I saw and exchanged smiles and eye contact w/ her (I leave people alone for the most part --- rule of thumb) but, yeah, up close and personal Xtina is SMOKING RED HOT. ..and seemed real nice too, you know. ..

How does a disaster like Joplin get cleaned-up? Do people actually sift through or does it get bulldozed and piled-up and burned like a funeral pyre or loaded into dump trucks and dumped into landfills? Is the metal used for scrap? ...separated from phosphorus and nonphosphorus metals? Are like the old aircondition units recycled properly?

I mean, how does a monumental disaster like this get cleaned-up in an efficient, environmentally sound and sustainable manner?

And, how much is the cost, who's paying and who's getting paid and receiving the payments?

Where's the reporting on this?

What non-formal, non-news-industry experience or practice as a young adult helped prepare you for an anchor on Fox & Friends?

When Egos GO BAD: Elway

With the NFL lockout in full swing, John Elway must really be bored.

Somehow Elway -- the Denver Broncos vice president and Hall-of-Fame quarterback -- became aware of the Fort Collins, Colo., punk band "Elway," and decided he's just not cool with the group using his surname.

The Broncos legend's lawyer has requested that the band change its name, but stopped short of suing or issuing a cease and desist order.

The band, to its credit, was mostly amused. In a statement released via punknews.org, the band acknowledged the letter and suggested Elway had better things to do in the wake of the Broncos' disastrous 2010 season.

"We have no intention of changing the name again. We love the name, regardless of what connotations are inferred by the listener. Surely, if the Dead Kennedys could become one of punk's most popular bands without incurring litigation, Elway can keep their moniker and continue making so-so music for our dozens of fans to enjoy."

Score a point for Elway -- the band, that is. And now the group has now received more press than it ever would have had Elway minded his own business. There have to be quite a few people perusing the band's MySpace site, rocking out to songs like "Wolf Shirt," which to be honest, isn't a bad little jam.

Anyway, it's better than anything Elway or his team have produced in the last year. Maybe he's jealous.

Last nite was the first nite I watched Mike & Molly. (I thought his character was a UPS guy? is that another show?). At any rate, it was really fucking funny and I'm glad to hear this Pittsburgh boy is set-up for another season ... (what a life). ..

And, you know, I probably never would've tuned-in to begin with if I hadn't been tuning-in WDVE Morning Show everyday.

new predictions

just within the last month or two i've discovered and been listening to this song Aretha Franklin and Etta James have sung that GP is singing here (included below). ... ... ... if a man can dig this song the way women around GP said he dug songs and women and what made GP so beautiful & compelling -which also made the likes of the hardened original gangster of the music business Keith Richards fall in love w/ him- was his conviction and how he used that conviction to make some of the best misunderstood music = inspiring those around him, those to come and those still to come. .. ... ... ... Well, so, if a man can really dig this song, then i think they have a good chance of really making it with a good woman. .... .... .... now, of course, GP was a rocker in a free-wheelin' time so, relationships can get messy --- and then apply a constant heavy dose of alcohol (the true American way) = and well. ..that's expected and any other thought is naive. .... .... ... However, if it's a man who's like in economics and finances and politics and we're supposed to trust them w/ money (our money) and to govern in a fair and just manner = well, if they can't keep it in their pants and show some respect, then ... i don't know. .. (or maybe i do). ..

Take me to heart and I'll always love you
And nobody else could make me do wrong
Take me for granted, and I'll tag along
Makes willpower weak, and temptation's strong

A woman's only human
This you must understand
She's not just a plaything
She expects love just like a man

So if you want a do right all day woman
You gotta be a do right all night man

They say that it's a man's world
But you can't prove that by me
So as long as we're together, baby
You better show some respect for me

So if you want a do right all day woman
You gotta be a do right all night man
You gotta be a do right all night man
You gotta be a do right all night man

Love Hurts

The soft lightening posing a threat...
I know he'll like that he doesn't regret

Music moans @ drops of giant thunder
No wonder you're scared, baby, .. It's the sound of a loud drop on linoleum
He's dead and there's no one else in town
Go ahead, I'm already dead from livin' too long
The poetry is in the song where she said so long
This scene is not worth its lot and who's been forgotten for money?
Take a little time off, baby, you deserve it and he'll never know
What comes after tomorrow with what has to borough in order to be with you. ..

oh, sorry, i hear Krista Voda on your radio right now. ..i didn't know you guys (and Val) had her on, my fault....

yeah, she may make the listing for hottest women of the new everydaymedia for new media madness: an everyday art -including top 100 hottest women of the new everydaymedia (a celebration of smart, savvy, dynamic & engaging) - and pretty good poetry by a poet compared to Walt Whitman, Henry Miller and Jim Morrison by an authority on literature named Wallace Fowlie.

I know that the big rock bands / the big label acts make the majority of money for the record company which allows for new acts to be signed and also those bands who you have to scratch the surface a bit to be allowed to enjoy because the radio sure as hell won't be playing them ... and nowadays the latter bands with a sustainable following and integrity filled talent (sometimes genius) can say "forget you" label and start their own label and succeed as everyday musicians (even rockstars).

In 1982 I was playing along w/ Van Halen records. I met Jack Glades from Night Ranger in a lobby @ PeachTree Hyatt in Atlanta when i was 12 yrrs of age and he had invited me to sit down to talk w/ his & his girlfriend and even gave me a hug when we finished speaking. ..I was thrown off the football team because I left practice to see the Beastie Boys open up for Madona in 84. ..I think it was 88 when i met the Violent Femmes in like 88 back when I was an avid listener to WXXP Pittsburgh which played songs like Under the Milky Way, Judas Kiss, Black Coffee in Bed, Can't get Here from There, Watching the Detectives, etc.
At university in the early 90's I'd go to the library and listen to archived music ranging from authentic recorded African drumming & chanting to "the blues" played & recorded on front porches of old slave shacks. ..I met the LemonHeads (Evan Dando = playing pool @ a private party in Milwaukee while i attended Marquette U.), etc. ...

So i do know music a bit = and in a geeky obsessive way. I'm enjoying a lot of Gram Parsons now.

The WDVE morning show mostly plays big band artists & acts (almost exclusively) in accordance with the unwritten and well written laws of the music industry and how things are done at big rock & roll stations that are the biggest in their city.

But that's OK. ... I don't have to listen to Van Halen, etc. over and over again (and like it). .. especially when I don't think he/Eddie is a better guitar player and musician compared to Dean Ween (mickey melchiondo) of Ween .. . moreover Ween has been around since like 90 = signed on Elektra as teens and in like 93 already toured Europe and cranking out records --- and, now actually, more meaningfully (and relevant) than Van Halen, they still get around ... and I'd say Dean Ween / Mickey is probably the better human be-ing too ... especially with this venture Guide Service & Archangel Sportsfishing http://www.mickeysfishing.com/ in his native waters of New Hope, PA and NJ. ..

Mickey states he's been obsessed w/ fishing these New Hope & NJ fresh + salt waters for a long time and, keeping your safety first, if you can hang in w/ a positive attitude you can see why his everyday is so special + he lists himself as a pretty good conversationalist = and this i know he is = as sitting w/ him & two others @ Dee's Cafe in a booth on the south side of town 5 or 6 years ago after a show in Pittsburgh (which they always so graciously include as a stop). .. i had an awesome time.

Eddie Van Halen is over-rated. And, what's he doing for his local community and fans in such an enagaging everyday way?

Hi, remember that blue Sunday I stood outside the Fox and Friends window @ 48th and 6th during the show (after Rusted Root at Manhattan's Union Square or whatever that shabby shiek venue is called there)?... My wife called me to tell me she saw me and that you turned around and waved ... But just as I didn't answer that call ... I didn't acknowledge the wave or that someone inside was paying attention to me ... You know, I don't really like cameras and being filmed or shot so that's one of the reasons I am amazed by some of new everyday media who can pull the whole thing out of the box ... At first the new everyday media was just to get my poetry, points of view and philosophy across ... Now, years later I guess I'm surprised that while pickin' my six string acoustic guitar like a blue grass wind whirling through the tips of trees across the mountains and valleys I stop and take a snap because I truly admire your abilities and attributes.
