Has the GOP Finally Gone TOO Far?: Gov’t Shutdown = the U.S. Blues

Has the GOP Finally Gone TOO Far?: Gov’t Shutdown = the U.S. Blues

This morning at Starbucks there was a petition for customers to sign in opposition to the political theatrics in D.C. causing a shutdown of federal services. The CEO of Starbucks himself started this and I saw it happening "live" on CNN yesterday in Atlanta, Georgia and today in my own backyard.

States are forced to act like they have separate sovereignty in absence of federal funds to pay for things like park rangers and pay for it themselves at hot spots that bring in huge tourist tax dollars for them and their constituent small business owners who need this day to day over-spill revenue tourism creates for the local economy.

Our precious veterans are showing up at sentimental monuments for the psyche of the U.S. Military and casting aside “Gov’t shutdown” barricades in an act of civil disobedience and manning these places themselves so they may be celebrated everyday for everyday people. (One guy who looked like a “tea bagger” said, “as long as no one is victimized here and people are non-violent & low-key & respectful there won’t be any need for law enforcement anyway – if we all just act responsible, we’ll all be OK. Hell, there are even some guys around here who already started maintenance. I myself love landscape architecture and been eye’n this place up to improve it from what they been paid to do.”)

Christian churches are using their fresh garden harvests to give-away and serve as foodbanks for all the hungry families who need subsidized either because they were on a federal program or they’re a younger couple with kids who bought that big home in the suburbs and daddy lost his job.

In Colorado, the first commercial crop of hemp in 56 years is harvested to help struggling desperate farmers, and demand is high. One problem: It's illegal in the eyes of the federal government.

Last year things got tricky. Colorado, along with Washington state, legalized recreational marijuana. When a state law conflicts with a federal law, the feds win. But in the case of small-scale marijuana use, federal authorities have been advised to back off, letting local jurisdictions handle the issue through regulation, according to a recent Justice Department memo.

Hemp was legalized under Colorado's Amendment 64, but more as an afterthought, says Eric Steenstra, president of Vote Hemp, a national advocacy group. State lawmakers were directed to come up with a plan to regulate hemp farming, and that authority was given to the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

"It should not be treated like a drug, it should be treated like corn," says state Sen. Gail Schwartz, a Democrat and chair of the Agriculture, Natural Resources and Energy Committee.

For years hemp was widely grown in this country, even promoted by the government during World War II. But it eventually fell out of favor, and the last known commercial harvest was in Wisconsin in 1957.

Colorado's rules for hemp farming are still being determined and will not go into effect until next year.

Has the GOP gone too far?

Are the “tea baggers” anarchists – do you agree with Democrat Harry Reid on this?

“‘Anarchist’? Why in the world wouldn’t I use the term anarchy?” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., in a CNN interview. “That’s what they are. They’re anarchists. They don’t believe in government — at any level. … They’re anarchists, just like they were at the beginning of the 20th century. … They’re not blowing up buildings and they’re not killing people. But they’re throwing monkey wrenches in the wheels of government.” That a reporter parroted the line almost verbatim explains why Obama and the Democrats believe they will win the PR battle over which party voters will blame for this partial government shutdown.

 Anarchists. Indeed I say.

What’s next are one of these libertarian-republican hybrid strain of “tea bagger” gonna agree with U.S. Attny General Holder the top-cop and state that targeting non violent low level marijuana users is NOT a good use of federal dollars and local cops should not being tapping into NSA’s database supposed to be used exclusively under FISA guidance and not to track the movements of “love interests” running parallel surveillances to guarantee a bust for anything they happen to “randomly” do that's illegal.

Are traffic stops like that constitutional when they have nothing to do with terror and yet local enforcement tapped into the “switch” in NSA’s D.I.C.E to target and track and bust “love interests.”

Should something like this be made to “go away.”

I know one thing if a Putin and his bare chest come to Sewickley to try and “wrestle” me, I want the federal government to protect and serve me.

No Matter Who You Are If You're Famous & in Pittsburgh, ...

In case you're famous and hanging out in Pittsburgh to get that pretty gritty Prodigal Son vibe found on the Rolling Stones Beggars Banquet album and you're caught daydreaming of a steel guitar engagement enjoying yourself lost in all the moment has to offer don't worry, man, someone will eye you up & down and mutter what's known as "yinzer pride" and chatter in their own official language, "jagg-off!"

Welcome friends ;)

Hey man, You're famous. You can deal with that shit all day and still rock out 110%

so, "I guess it don't matter, anyway." --- (jerry, morning dew)

And if you slip and are appalled at the rudeness and audacity of someone that looks like that chattering "whatever." .. Well Nietzsche says, "take every compliment as a slap in the face and every insult as a compliment."

Coffee Thoughts: Confessions

OK.

Sure.

I did not
do it.

So many people along the road
have given me a copy of
"The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance"
but I never read them or even started it.

Sorry.

It's been that way with me and especially
then when it was important to me to develop
my own voice as a poet, as a person and
try and transcend and progress as a be-ing.
Therefore, whether a film, book or band
there came a time when I realized to be
a salmon swimming up stream against the
current that I had to share the pop of the
moment but avoid being part of that burst
which oft leaves people empty & unhappy.

I was like that with the band Rusted Root
which I dig very much still to this day as
they continue to tour two decades later. I
have even told this to the lead singer Mr.
Michael Glabicki. Just couldn't jump on
the band wagon because PennState frat
brats were diggin' on them + Phish.
It took me a while but once I saw them
under a blanket of stars in the early 90's
on the lawn of Penn State Uni = I knew.

But, yeah, despite being considered a very
cool guy and "Zen like" #peaceful #calm
I have never read that book. I guess advice
like "if everyone was jumping off a bridge
would you have to too to be one of them?"
That stuck with me and along those lines
+ a doctor teaching me existential philosophy
101 I thought it would be better as an
individual.

Then reading case law and writing briefs
in "Individual & Minority Rights" I figured
I was really better off reading that than
"The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" during
my college years = proving me well in my life.

Sorry, I didn't read your book.

Who Are You, Polly Maggoo? (1966) = a surely groovy movie for you to view in full here

Who Are You, Polly Maggoo?

(1966) - William Klein = a groovy movie for you to view in full here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y34uDNzkYDk

Who Are You, Polly Maggoo? (French: Qui êtes vous, Polly Maggoo?) is a 1966 French film directed by William Klein.
It is a satirical art house movie spoofing the fashion world and its excesses. It stars Dorothy McGowan as supermodel Polly Maggoo being followed by a French television crew. It also stars Grayson Hall as Miss Maxwell, a fashion magazine editor modeled after Diana Vreeland, and Philippe Noiret as the TV reporter and director. Also appearing in the film are Jean Rochefort, Sami Frey and Alice Sapritch.
McGowan, the Brooklyn-born star and one-time Vogue cover girl in 1962, was one of William Klein's favorite models. After the release of the film, which was McGowan's first and only film role, she disappeared from public view and apparently neither acted nor modeled again, according to Klein.

"Cloak of Frogs"

Freakwater "Cloak of Frogs"

a live performance = watch here in youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9O3tNWXQpY

Cloak of Frogs
I'm sitting at this table I painted a shiny red
With a bowl full of oranges, a candle and a half a cigarette
I turn on the radio watch the tubes begin to glow
And the light flickers with the voice of one who knows

Take me to the river
Wash me in the water
He sings to me, to the fallen (water)
And I hear him singing out
I'm nervous in my skin I feel it has been read (rent)
And the mess that's seeping out
Only the devil could have sent
Wash me in the water
Get rid of the evidence
She is standing on the bank
Prayin' for water to take my breath
Take me to the river
Wash me in the water
He sings to me, to the fallen
And I hear him singing out (say do it now)
My muscles have grown weary dragging this cloak of frogs
(Now mosses have grown where he dragged in his cloak of frogs)
And I cried when the deal was struck
Oh please no gun
For I am a murderer hidden in a gasoline shroud
You were my healer you were my match
I was gonna burn this damn thing down

by Freakwater http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9O3tNWXQpY

Freakwater opened for Wilco for a few shows.

Freakwater best exemplifies the representative traits of alt.country discussed here. Centered around the songwriting and vocal team of Janet Bean and Catherine Irwin (with bassist David Gray), Freakwater play a brand of country music that has been virtually unheard since A.P., Sara, and Maybelle Carter parted ways over fifty years ago. The band officially came together in 1989, recording a pair of albums on a small independent label and then switched to a slightly more prominent indie label. Their sound hangs on Bean and Irwin's emotive harmonies, acoustic guitars, and other stringed "traditional" instruments, betraying almost none of the changes in country music in the last half decade. Even electric guitars and drums are almost nonexistent on their recordings. While the women of Freakwater are indebted to early country music, citing the Carter Family and the Louvin Brothers as influences, they are not strictly country purists in the Nashville sense of the term. Bean, with her husband, has spent much of the last decade writing and performing in Eleventh Dream Day, an indie rock band far different from Freakwater. Freakwater also recently rejected a Nashville-based major label deal in favor of remaining with the indie label Thrill Jockey (which is not known for its country roster) thus strengthening their anti-Nashville image. Remaining with that label virtually assures that Freakwater albums will not be available in major retail outlets and that they will not receive exposure in traditional media. In their marketing, they also refrain from the Nashville standard; their album covers, painted by Irwin, are expressionist pieces that convey the idea of cover art as "art," a convention of rock music which was extended in the indie world.

Magic of Circle like Atoms Vs. Finite Concrete like Squares

"Thoughts in time and out of season the hitchhiker stood by the side of the road and leveled his thumb in the calm calculus of reason."

... Not sure if phrase "building blocks" of life actually gets people thinking too square and habit of always leaning on a sure thing = squares can be squared. Whereas atoms are more representative as the form of a circle = organic matter comes from the mysteries of life and death that we have not conquered and constantly remain afraid of (no one knows for certain) .... So those who must try and calm their fears need the in-organic finite confidence of childhood blocks they can stack ... Atoms fuse into each other and do all kinds of things that appear magical ... Like alchemy ...

“If Pittsburgh were transformed into a super hero comic book short film script for tonight. .. it might go like this.” Starring Wiz Khalifa, Billy Gardell, Yo-Yo Ma and a 40 foot yellow rubber duck

If Pittsburgh were transformed into a super hero comic book short film script for tonight. .. it might go like this.” Starring Wiz Khalifa, Billy Gardell, Yo-Yo Ma and a 40 foot yellow rubber duck ...

Unedited Draft 1:

If Pittsburgh were transformed into a super hero comic book short film script for tonight. .. it might go like this.

My wife and I are walking from our home in Sewickley into a Yellow Cab dressed in black tie gala attire. Filler footage of the Sewickley Village scene as our cab drives through and we chat showing her beautiful blue gown and the luxurious fabric of my tuxedo pants – the whizzing along side the Ohio River & Rt. 65.
The cab goes by Heinz Field and makes it way further past Point State Park and its forever fountain toward PNC Park via the Ft. Duquense Bridge – and, there’s that money shot of one of this weekend’s jewels in the crown. .. the buzz for the weekend is Pirates are finally in the playoffs again since early 1990’s, the Cultural District Art Gallery & Café Crawl, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Gala and season kick-off (“some enchanted evening” theme) featuring a world class performance by no other than Yo-Yo Ma, and the giant 40 foot tall yellow rubber duck on loan from Japan sitting in one of Pittsburgh’s three rivers by the Roberto Clemente Bridge.

It’s apparent under the sky blue sky of Pittsburgh as the sun is setting why Pittsburgh has been called The Golden Triangle for centuries now. The city has never looked better and its people after years of corruption, pollution and economic depression (as well as a non value of life moral decline) have never felt such civic pride and in a position to really chant, “Cleveland Sucks!”
We glide through the city streets to the opulent Heniz Hall. “Architecture is like frozen music” I whisper to my wife as we mingle our way through cocktails & hors d’Å“uvre pre-performance. Women and men alike dressed like proud peacocks strutting along while sipping fancy drinks & with white napkins. It’s a star studded affair for the PSO and a “who’s who” of the city = “some enchanted evening” indeed my wife says back to me. “I feel like we’re in a fairy tale.”
We our seated. The lights are turned down low.
Yo-Yo Ma’s multi-faceted career is testament to his continual search for new ways to communicate with audiences, and to his personal desire for artistic growth and renewal - exploring cultures and musical forms outside the Western classical tradition, Mr. Ma strives to find connections that stimulate the imagination – And he was delivering the #goodstuff tonight for all of us.
Just then men in black & yellow gang colors storm the police at the doors of Heniz Hall and over power the 90 year old ushers and are all around with Bushmaster AR-15 ‘s.
Trouble. Real trouble. This isn’t the kind of guys caught in “the targets” of some desperate divorcee & bored housewife diabolical gossip this is the kind of “real trouble successful celebrated detectives hate to target & label as “suspect” (when there are plenty of non violent low level #potheads to bust & jail as trophies) and politicians hate to admit exists.  There was no suspicion left for me. I knew in front of us and all round was real trouble.
Suddenly the main chandelier starts to shake, rattle and roll and as the lights blackout and then turn back on in full blaze = Wiz Khalifa in full blaze appears on stage with Yo-Yo Ma.
“Peduto!” Wiz Khalifa screams into the mic. “All these people are gonna get smoked unless I get that statue of me at the Pittsburgh Intl. Airport! I want your signature in blood now!”
Peduto, one of the examples of the new Pittsburgh uncorrectable politician (who doesn’t go to the extreme of  having a private police squad to carry through with his dark agenda of putting bounties on his enemies to be sold off to prison pimps) gives a sincere plea to Wiz Khalifia reminding him that even when every teacher & adult had turned on him and said he would be nothing more than scum – he believed that he would one day represent Pittsburgh as one of its biggest pop stars in the world of rap music. Which Wiz accomplished.
Tensions were releasing and things looked better.
But then Wiz’s iPhone’s alarm that he got a tweet or a mention in a tweet alerted him.
Sally Wiggin of WTAE Channel 4 was in the PSO’s theme of “some enchanted evening” and was dressed like Tinker Bell from Peter Pan. Sitting next to her was king of new media WDVE’s Pittsburgh’s “DVE Randy.” Despite the age gap and the fact Sally Wiggin was dressed like Tinker Bell – DVE Randy looked just like Robert Downey Jr. in his Sherlock Holmes character and so they did not appear odd looking together at all.
“Just in,” Wiz announced while glancing at his phone with a menacing grin, “Wiz is just super super high = he’ll forget what he’s doing in about 4.3 seconds. Haha! @DVERandy."
“That’s it!” Wiz brought down the chandelier smashing to the ground and exposing a gaping wound of the ceiling of Heniz Hall displaying a blanket of stars.
“You all are sitting ducks!” Wiz laughed.
Yo-Yo Ma and Wiz darted back stage – Wiz dragging Yo-Yo Ma by the arm.
Yo-Yo Ma then stands alone on stage with the mic.
“We’re all doomed,” Yo-Yo Ma explained.  Wiz is going to have the 40 foot yellow rubber duck sitting in the river by the Roberto Clemente Bridge dropped on the ceiling of Heinz Hall to crush us all to our death. There’s nothing we can do.”
DVERandy knows we need a hero and uses twitter and his private tweets for good.
Out in L.A. Pittsburgh’s Billy Gardell was hired by nonetheless of Les Moonves himself after Billy saved a loose bird in the parking lot studio from flying into Julie Chen’s hair as she was stepping onto the set of Big Brother. Billy happened to be walking by to audition for Mike & Molly and had his lucky “Terrible Towel” with him that he was using to wipe the sweat from his forhead and behind his neck in that humid urban jungle L.A. heat and waved that Terrible Towel with such force at that bird flying right for Julie Chen’s hairdo that the bird and tragedy was averted.
“You know what?!” Billy Gardell said to Les Moonves. “That was too funny!”
“Yes.”  Les Moonves replied. “What are you here for, Mike & Molly auditions? You’re hired!”
DVERandy knew the only thing to blow away that 40 foot yellow rubber duck sitting in the river by the Roberto Clemente Bridge from being dropped through the ceiling of Heinz Hall crushing everybody to their deaths was the sheer might and force of Billy Gardell waving the “Terrible Towel” …
Meanwhile, Wiz is gathered with gang leaders from all the major Pittsburgh hot spots … Homewood, Homestead, McKeesport, North Side, Hill District, Duquense. … and Wiz is delivering s speech to unite and fight as one like the speech Cyrus from the blockbuster 70’s film “the Warriors” gave to NYC gang leaders to unite and fight as one. ..

To Be Continued. …
(check back tomorrow to see what happens and for added pictures)

"Voices of Vinyl" _ a new poem for you

Voices of Vinyl

Before they could speak

Drums played an enchanted dance

Feet and hands slapping that basic instinct programmed in the

Warm cavern of a modern-day skull; vibrations of stars. Rotation of

Earth and its gravitational field, forces of light and momentum

The patterns make their way into the darkened night and we hear

Sad and lonely voices of cotton fields in a beautiful bayou morning after an

intense crimson dusk ... Hey thanks for being an inspiration

How's things where you are? Here’s what’s going on here? You hear?

Listeners learn to react with empathy as the velvet satin sounds of singing

Moan on A.M.

Hooked like a sea perch and eaten in the same delicate fashion not in vain

Timelessness knows it can rest its weary head in the bosom of progress

pick up the change

If it's just your heart talking, I don't mind
If you wanna call me darling, that's just fine, that's just fine
But if it's your mind that's wandering, it'll fall in line
When I kiss your cheek dear, every time, every time

We used to have a lot of things in common
But you know now we're just the same
You always had more than I really wanted
Aw honey, help me
Aw honey, help me pick up the change

If it's just your heart talking, I'll listen every time
Dear, you can talk my ear off, anytime, anytime
But if my mind starts wandering, it won't be gone long
Whenever I hear your heart talking, it's a song, it's a song

We used to have a lot of things in common
But you know now we're just the same
You always had more than I really wanted
Aw honey, help me
Come on honey, help me pick up
Aw honey, help me pick up the change

Aw honey, help me
Come on honey, help me pick up
Aw honey, help me pick up the change
