July 3, 1863 in a Small Pennsylvania Town Changed the Fate of America Forever ...

Battle of Gettysburg

This most famous and most important Civil War Battle occurred over three hot summer days, July 1 to July 3, 1863, around the small market town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It began as a skirmish but by its end involved 160,000 Americans.

Photographer Matthew Brady documented the battlefield and exhibited his images in his New York studio. The photos caused a sensation. However, the general public had to wait almost 40 years until the development of photo-engraving allowed printing of the pictures.

The North suffered an estimated 23,000 casualties during the battle (killed, wounded and captured) while the South suffered an estimated 31,000.

I find this "an amazing coincidence" that this famous fateful battle occurred July 1 - 3 given that July 4th is such an important celebration for the freedom of these United States
