July 3, 1863 in a Small Pennsylvania Town Changed the Fate of America Forever ...

Battle of Gettysburg

This most famous and most important Civil War Battle occurred over three hot summer days, July 1 to July 3, 1863, around the small market town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It began as a skirmish but by its end involved 160,000 Americans.
Confederate prisoners at Gettysburg
Photographer Matthew Brady documented the battlefield and exhibited his images in his New York studio. The photos caused a sensation. However, the general public had to wait almost 40 years until the development of photo-engraving allowed printing of the pictures.

Gettysburg at the time of the battle
The North suffered an estimated 23,000 casualties during the battle (killed, wounded and captured) while the South suffered an estimated 31,000.

I find this "an amazing coincidence" that this famous fateful battle occurred July 1 - 3 given that July 4th is such an important celebration for the freedom of these United States

Heidi Collins: CNN Newsroom's Everydyay Media Morning Anchor

Heidi Collins CNN Newsroom's Everyday Media Morning Anchor is SO TOTALLY SMOKING RED HOT = A+++++++++++++

... if SO TOTALLY SMOKING RED HOT = A++++++++++++ were a Patagonia fleece blanket, I'd spread her out on the echoing green of a prominent country club and lay on top of her this 4th of July weekend while lightning bugs flying around at dusk indicate the start of fireworks ...

What's Going On?

This was an enjoyable show with more meaning than just the boring "yawn" allegorical salute to thug life!!!... Yeah.
It was a totally cool moment in Hip Hop history when Wyclef Jean accepted the Humanitarian Award by saying, "I come from a hut! I lived in a hut! I come from a hut! I moved to the projects! I lived in the projects! I come from the projects! And then went into a mansion! So, all you all out there = I don't wanna hear any excuses!"
There were so many excellent acts but some of what stands out in my mind are the Ojays, Beyonce, Jay Z, Ne-Yo and Jamie Foxx

Wolf Hollow Inn

water flowing over creek rocks

through rolling valleys of fertility

the Inn was nestled in the dichotomy

of sacred wealth and secret trees, hills,

and tiny watchful eyes that crawl around

and over this beautifully harsh terrain

on the property of the Wolf Inn, surveying

and pondering the environment, he saw the eyes

of the predators that took away babes, good dogs,

old men & lost boys in the night away from campfires

and sometimes even in the translucency of daylight

at one time it was a place fit for cunning brutality

- a place of wolf and of man

- wolves and men

-         guns and the law

now the wolves need just as much protection as we do

and thank God our Federal Government knows much of

wolves and men

Impact

light sprayed the summer night
from the train running down the track
about the time my fingers were tracing
the cool jeweled moonlight down her back
and that tv news personality off a week in
June looked better than when on television
it wasn't really a decision the White House
made -it was a reaction to fast passed actions
and then when divided by fractions of factions
the total sum - it split - and the poor got paid
while certain unsatisfied governors still paid for lays
the sky is blue and it's a cool hot summer's day
that's percolating outside this coffee house I sit in
ah, man, I don't want to let it get away from me now
and what's really stopping us from another "hayday" anyhow?...

Is Fox News Channel "the Most Powerful Name in NEWS"???

Sure, Fox News Channel has guys like Chris Wallace, Brian Kilmeade & Steve Doocy, Geraldo, Bill O'Reilly, Hemmer, Hannity, Huck and Shep and, of course, Greg Gutfeld (host of one of the best shows on TV = Red Eye) ---

And Fox News Channel is a good example of "the new everyday media" ranging from a sleek, high tech and yet engagingly personable look & feel of its sets; great staff, producers, writers and interns; accessibility for its viewers = you can call Greg Gutfeld's personal line and leave a message or email in shows or the hosts and anchors themselves and follow them on Twitter, Face Book, web sites, etc. ...

However, the fact that Fox News Channel fully embraces the power of strong, intelligent, articulate, beautiful, HOT, leggy women who are dynamic and archetypes for powerful modern women instead of beating them down and veiling them certainly raises the bar for me ... ... ... ...

Previously on HLN ...

Previously on Headline News with Robin Meade = last Friday Robin and President George W Bush 41 sit around on a Maine morning and have coffee and coffee cake and talk about the weather ...

And, then, out of the blue, Bush 41 decides that for his 85th birthday he wants to go skydiving so he assembles the Golden Knights that live in his compound and away they go ...

In recent years, Bush's jumps have been about fun and celebration, but he first parachuted out of a plane when he was a naval aviator shot down over the Pacific Ocean during World War II.

"People kept asking all week leading up to this, 'Are you afraid?'" Meade said. "And my answer, up until about 1PM Friday, was: no, I'm thinking more about the interview with President Bush 41 and keeping focused on that, and then I can think about the jump. I gotta tell you, the whole way up in the plane ride I kept wondering if I would lose my cookies in front of a president, his family on the ground and on national television. I'm happy to say I never needed the 'party bag"...but when they said in the plane, 'It's time to go," I told my producer my that my knees were shaking. That's when I finally got nervous."

Meade said that while airborne, she "kept sucking down some oxygen for fear I'd get sick," while the former President was consumed looking for his family's Kennebunkport home.

As for the skydive itself, Meade said "the first two or three seconds in free fall didn't feel so hot" but after her body adjusted it felt more like she was flying.

"I think I grunted or squealed once or twice in the jump and when the parachute opens," she said. "It rips and jerks you upward. After the parachute opened I could speak to my tandem partner, Sgt. First Class Kurt Isenbarger, originally from Ohio. He asked as we were parachuting if I wanted to spin and show off and come in fast. I said, no I definitely didn't want to spin. We were coming in fast enough!"

Meade added that she and the former President set a date to skydive again in five years.

"President Bush invited me to go again when he turns 90." she said. "Deal!"

Poetry 101: Ecstatic Vision

I recall being at Marquette University in Milwaukee Wisconsin and visiting a poetry reading with rich ladies and students of leisure from White Fish Bay and this young man stood by the fish tank and drank like an older man could but probably shouldn't and wouldn't be able to anyway on his daddy's gold card and then when it was my turn the young man got on stage and then said something like this, "I am a poet. Not the coffee house kind or the kind in The New Yorker but the kind of the ancient times where poets where be-ings of vision and where words were really healing signs and symbols." ...

Yeah, and then I did something which made the host in her garden hat "gasp" ... I also recall I would not allow any friends of mine to accompany me or attend beceause I really wanted to just be me and not a part of any crowd consciousness other than what I wanted to create

Rusted Root peforming their classic song "XTC" live @ woodstock 99

This performance of Rusted Root's XTC was on my birthday July 25th 1999

Rusted Root was on tour with Jewel and they both rolled in for Woodstock '99

Interesting fact: Rusted Root is the only artist ever to play the original Woodtstock spot = yeah, i think some radio station in New York made that happen for some special promotion

D.C. Blues (2nd draft)

D.C. Blues (2nd draft)

The Bible, the Koran, the Torah are not virtual road maps they’re just guides for a “big cash in” if that’s what you’re into and believe you need more greed to take with you …
Ah, when do you think we’ll understand that taking a stand is just not an ordinary protest
that you can attend and then go home and pull the covers over your head? It’s about change that brings about giving one life, love & peace on Earth like George Harrison said
And it offends me to walk around D.C. and see pious people in grand suits because if I was notably against their agenda for their own personal treasures I know they’d shoot me dead
And it offends me to see women who wrap their heads in veils to conceal their suppression in a way that’s meant to really steal democratic elections in oil rich Islamic countries where if you’re a freedom fighter you can really feel all the hatred of oppression where the mystery of Persian night is over for me --- I know that they’re not free
So, well, that’s okay as long as you don’t ever even try to apply that shit on me, man … because I am a Freedom man who likes my ripped and frayed, faded Levis jeans and wants the freedom to grow my hair long and shave my face and contribute to the human race
And if that means by getting higher to see above the blowing sands of the land well, then, that’s okay with me and it should be with you = don’t tell me what to do = I drink, I swear, I sex, I don’t believe in your lies = you’re a liar = you’re liars and I am politically correct here so don’t ask me to excuse myself as I am no diplomat for your cause(s) for treasure
As I’m just trying to get along by myself and be a free man in America, in the world, in my worn vintage Levis like the color of D.C. blues washed in the big corporate machine
where we all wash our hands after taking a stand for the causes we really should understand

... so, yesterday after we settled into our suite at the Ritz Carlton @ 1150 22nd, NW in D.C. we were "walkie to Milwaukee" w/ Parker Bean (the little big Lhasa Apso) and we walked into Washington Circle and saw the CNN trucks and, low and behold, and yet, under somber circumstances, I noticed this beautiful blonde in a red blazer and sitting down and facing George Washington Hospital. As soon as she looked up I knew it was the smoking red hot Kate Bolduan and while the crowd of people crossed the street when the walk signal turned okay I stood still and tried to stand out so she may notice that cute guy looking her way ... (but then my wife yelled for me / at me and I took the leash and walked Parker Bean over every inch of grass we could find in the concrete jungle) ...

... wow!!! is Jerry havin' some fun or what???!!! ... do you think he's diggin' playing this tune???!!!

just yesterday while driving around the National Mall on a sunny Saturday morning I heard an interview w/ Jerry on Sirius Radio's Grateful Dead channel and it was so engaging and really spoke to me --- Interestingly, the interviewer asked Jerry about meditation and religion and Jerry was saying how music is his yoga. Doing his lessons everyday is like meditation and he really does believe that whatever you do whatever trip you're on as long as you focus that energy on something that the mind benefits and there is that power of consciousness ... However, he said that though people may follow dogmatic type religions and meditate towards religious agendas although he doesn't demean them he's not into that and it's just not for him - he's focused on his Earth be-ing and isn't looking for the "big cash in." ...

And, then, speaking of "cashing in" ... The interviewer asked him about the music industry as a big corporate machine and where Jerry sees it going ... Jerry stated that he thinks it's going to oblivion ... and followed by stating that basically the music industry stands for everything he's against ... and although he has friends in it he personally feels removed from it like it's an insurance company or the government or something ... Jerry said that music can get you higher and that that's why he plays and when he goes to see some music he goes to see music that's gonna get him off ... That's what it's all about it ...
