Michelle Obama Plants Organic Vegtable Garden at White House

Michelle Obama starts White House vegetable garden

WASHINGTON, March 20 (Reuters) - First Lady Michelle Obama broke ground on a new White House vegetable garden on Friday, digging a plot on the mansion's south lawn to help provide her children and visitors with fresh, healthy food.

Obama, who has made a point of reaching out to the local Washington community since her husband's inauguration, gathered about two dozen local school school children to dig up the patch, which will be the first vegetable garden at the White House since Eleanor Roosevelt planted a "victory garden" during World War Two.

"I want to make sure that our family, as well as the staff and all the people who come to the White House and eat our food, get access to really fresh vegetables and fruits," Obama said.

"What I found with my girls, who are 10 and seven, is that they like vegetables more if they taste good."

She said they were also going to have a beehive -- an idea that did not thrill daughters Sasha and Malia.

"My kids aren't very excited about the beehive," she said. "But we're going to try to make our own honey here."

The garden, which will be organic, will be planted later in the spring and will include berries and mint in addition to vegetables. It is being started as the country faces an epidemic of obesity and diabetes.

Sam Kass, an assistant chef, said the White House hoped to have a year-round garden and planned to share some of the produce with a local soup kitchen.

Spinach, peas, fennel and squash would all feature in the garden, he said. The garden will produce up to as many as 55 different fruits and vegetables.

The garden was hailed as a victory by Kitchen Gardeners International, an organization of gardeners who promote home-grown food, which attracted some 100,000 people to sign its online petition asking the Obamas to plant a vegetable garden at the White House.

Brian Kilmeade on Red Eye w/ Anna David

Speaking of Anna ---- I don't miss Anna Gilligan.

It's so weird - just earlier this morn I was thinking how Brian Kilmeade has not been on Red Eye in a long time and how he hasn't even been on Fox & Friends in a few days and how I've missed his wickedly deviant genius sense of delivering informative entertainment (= which what most oft referred to as the everyday NEWS) that only Greg Gutfeld and the Red Eye boys come close to pulling off - And, low and behold, Brian Kilmeade appears on Red Eye along w/ Anna David who I am revisiting for my 2009 Top 75 Hottest Women of the New Everyday Media to be released on mystrawhat.com when the yellow daffodils are in full bloom with iris in late April (w/ her new book, great You Tube posts and the fact she looks even hotter now than when I interviewed her and walked behind her on the West Side thinking what a great ass she has in blue jeans = I'm sure she'll be in) .... .... ....

In short, Red Eye was completely awesome last night / well, this early morn. And how can it not be with Brian Kilmeade = for he is truly awesome. Yeah, you all were right, you can't have enough Brian Kilmeade. I tune in everyday. That's why each and every Christmas all I ask for is the Brian Doll (which appears on the set of Fox & Friends from time to time --- which would make a nice edition on the Red Eye set in Brian's long absences).

"I'd like to introduce Fox News Channel's Brian Kilmeade = If intelligence were a flute, Leprechauns would finger him every St. Patty's Day!" --- hehehe--- that was great.

Oh, by the way, Border Line is one of Madonna's best songs if I might say so myself and was definitely worth getting kicked off the Quigley Catholic H.S. Football team as a freshmen for leaving practice early to go see live at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, PA w/ the Beastie Boys opening-up.

Greeted by John Robert's voice this morn around 6:21 a.m. I was prompted to leave a message and keep it under 30 seconds --- so given that time limit and the fact that my comment was not completely thought out as I just came-up up with this idea yesterday while driving around in a state of observation and armed with media information of our everyday --- But, it went something like this, "Hi John Roberts. This is John French from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. You know it would be good if we helped out "the people" a bit by providing special loans that would allow homeowners to fix-up their homes --- having the government provide the banks with monies so they could help people do things like put a fresh coat on their homes or fix problems to get up to code or at "a needed par" - You know, aesthetics but also utilitarian things that would increase one's value --- This way Home Depot, Lowe's and all the contractors and workers would pick-up business and we can keep the whole thing rolling --- And actually let people be able to take pride in themselves --- And maybe have the government regulate these loans and the banks to make sure the right people are getting the money and its going toward the right things --- You know, let's really clean-up America.  And, by the way, Karin Chetry looks totally smoking hot this morning.  Alright, have a good one."

Interactive = engaging = exclellent new everyday media .... .... ....

But, really, following this idea would give money to banks, give money to the people/homeowners, big business, small business and allow people to increase the value of their homes and have chance to build equity and in the process help out the adjusters, appraisers - you know, the whole system --- And special tax breaks could go for green --- Let's clean-up America "starting at home"

Who's Getting Better Looking and More Engaging Everyday???... (Right Before Our Eyes) ...

It's really something!!! While going through this blog to do research for the upcoming 2009 Top 75 Hottest Women of the New Everyday Media listing for my new e-book "the New Everyday Media" for mystrawhat.com, I made it back to September 2008 postings (I started blogging in April '08) and, wow, what a difference in most of the women of everyday media pics!!! Recent pictures really "pop" more and translate in a way that is definitely more dynamic, engaging, accessible and savvy where the non-verbal communication is very strong!!! And, well, those who have not transitioned will be omitted. I look forward to going all the way back to April '08 and really seeing the progress made in terms of radiance, style, fashion, mannerisms, accessibility, and strong non-verbal communication which translates into = "POP!" The Top 75 Hottest Women of the New Everyday Media listing should be available in late April 2009.... .... ....
